Yes, I went back to Sheffield today. Not for good – just for a visit. I had to interview a local official about my thesis and – more importantly – pay a visit to my hairdressa Daniella. Honestly, seven years’ worth of good hair cuts makes it soooo worth it and I’m not ready to break up with her just yet!
Anyway, back to my Sheffield story. It was the first time that I’d been back since we moved out on 16 August, after nearly ten years of living there, and I truly expected to feel all sentimental about being back. But when I set foot off the train and walked through the city centre, I didn’t feel a single thing (actually I thought it was still a shite hole, at the risk of offending all Sheffield folk). And when I got the train back to Leeds tonight, it felt right and I was happy.
Sometimes the best decisions are the toughest decisions, but you won’t know unless you take that risk
