Arghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! I have been doing several stitched the wrong way round forever. Ssk - I passed the stitches purl-wise. Ditto sl, and probably a whole host of others I haven’t realised yet. I am hoping that I haven’t screwed up anything previously made with this schoolboy error, and am not entirely sure what difference it makes. However I am concerned re the lace scarf, as this will literally be riddled with mistakes. As I’m making one for my mum (the right way), I’ll be able to compare. I feel so p*ssed off with myself, but I guess it’s better to realise now that at the end of a full length cardi or double bedspread
Glad to have got that off my chest!

Eeep! Gosh that does sound frustrating! Being left handed I bet I do all manner of things backwards or wrong with crochet. If you consistently do it the ‘unique’ way I imagine it turns out okay right? I’m curious to see how the comparison looks between the two lace scarves.

It’s very likely just fine, maybe a slightly different twist. Don’t be hard on yourself! You could just consider it a special design feature
My own knitting has plenty of those! I do empathize; it’s no fun when I realize my mishaps.
My understanding is that for slipping a stitch, the default is purl-wise. When a decrease is involved that’s a different story.
“If they don’t specify, slip the stitch purl-wise…Unless you are decreasing: then, slip it knit-wise on the knit rows, and purl-wise on the purl rows. (According to Vogue Knitting.)”

It wouldn’t hurt if a pattern would just state which way to slip since there may not be one accepted standard. Who knows, you may end up liking your version better!

Jenny, THANK YOU so much for that advice! It really is appreciated. Now it all makes complete sense. I’ve ended up frogging something I was working on, as it was based around a slip stitch pattern, which had ended up horribly twisted because of my error. It’s sat in a draw now until I can remotivate myself, but like you I hate knowing that I’ve made errors and would rather start again the right way! Thanks so much xxx
